Leadlight (Came) Courses

Please Note: Lead Calme courses involve working with lead and lead based solder.

SB00 - Glasscutting Basics - 1.5 to 2 Hours - Run on request

You will learn the Practical Skills necessary to Safely Cut Glass Correctly.

This is both the Preliminary Course for all of the Leadlighting, Copper Foiling and Glass Slumping Courses so everyone is up to the same standard and you do not to waste your time learning these basics and is also suitable for those that just wish to learn how to measure, cut and fit their own glass for “those little accidents” in the home.

Two Course costs are listed, the first is for those planning to continue on and attend the Leadlighting, Copper Foiling or Glass Slumping Courses as you will be provided with a Leadlight Glasscutter, and for those that are attending for Window Repair use the second as you will be provided with a decent quality Window style Glasscutter. This course is usually run individually and by appointment.

SL01 - BASIC LEADLIGHT PANELS (6/10/2013)(8/10/2013)(10/10/2013) - 12 Hours over 6 Weeks

thumbnail

You will learn the basic theory and practical skills necessary to create Single Pane Leadlight Panels for Windows and Doors.

On completion of this course you should have gained enough knowledge and the associated skills to capably design, cartoon and manufacture your own simple flat stained glass panels for cupboards, windows or doors for your home.

This course has priority over one of the three available weekend timeslots (sun pm) so that those not available to come to class on weekdays may attend. The third date is for an evening course.

All groups for this course are planned to between four and six so that there is sufficent individual tuition time available. An extra date is usually programmed into the overall course schedule to cover the case that there is need for you to be absent during a standard course date. Please note that until the end of 2013 the limit is four students per class.

SL02 - BASIC LEADLIGHT LAMPSHADES (5/10/2013)(7/10/2013)(7/10/2013) - 12 Hours over 6 Weeks

thumbnail

By the completion of this course you should have gained enough knowledge and associated skills to capably design (cartoon), and manufacture your own Leadlight Lampshades for Standard, Wall and Ceiling type light fittings. This course requires both the Basic Leadlighting Toolkit and a SL0x Toolkit. These are both needed so you can work independently from the Studio for certain tasks you will need to carry out during the course.

SL03 – COMBINATION BASIC LEADLIGHT PANEL AND LAMPSHADES (6/10/2013)(6/10/2013) - 20 Hours over 10 Weeks

thumbnail

This is a combination of the two Leadlight Courses SL01 and SL02. Please be aware that it does require about 2hrs of 'homework' each week to complete within the programmed timeframe.

SL11 - ADVANCED LEADLIGHTING (6/10/2013)(10/10/2013) - 20 Hours over 10 Weeks

thumbnail

Some of the projects that have been carried out during this course were, replace the plain sidelights of a doorway with Tree Branches with Birds, a Rosebush with both open flowers and closed buds, a Double Glass Door and Overhead Transom Light Panels creating a multi-pannel scene, make a set of visibly matching leadlight windows (not as easy as you would think), create a large Fancy Mirror to fit above the Mantlepiece; etc.

It's the next step to the Basic Leadlighting Courses, where I provide Guidance, Direction and Assistance for your own project. Because of this the overall cost will depend on what you want to do and the materials you need. I expect you to come and talk it through with me, so I am convinced you know what you want to do, as well as at least be capable of completing your project. And of course your project can extend over a number of these Advanced Course Blocks when needed.

A satisfactorally completed SL01 / SL02 / SL03 is a prerequisite to attending this course and you also need the additional SL1x Toolkit to those obtained when you did your SL0x course to extend your kit. The second date is for an evening course. Please note that until the end of 2013 the maximum limit is four students per class although I usually run this with two.

Leadlighting Workshop (?/?/2013) - 1Hour Blocks

This is the day for those that have either completed a course and having a go at home, have got stuck with something and need some guidance, a little behind with your classwork and an extra workshop access timeslot will help, or need help sorting out moving an idea to a layout. Please note that my time during these workshops are not exclusively yours and will be shared if others are there.

It is carried out in the workshop so you can bring your work in. Workshop tools and equipment are accessable for use during your timeslots if needed.

Limited numbers are allowed at any one time on these days, you MUST be booked in advance into a timeslot.

Dates and times are on an as-needed basis.

Costs to attend these workshops is $12.00 per hour per person.

Copper Foiling Courses

Please note that I do not allow the use of lead based solder in my Copper Foiling Courses.

Glasscutting Basics - ~2Hours - Run on Request

This is a Preliminary Course for all Glass Courses, so that for fairness everyone starts their course streams at the same cutting level and thereby don't waste valuable class time learning to cut glass.

Please see Glasscutting Basics above for details and current cost.

The first three being the "learning steps" and the last the "design" step necessary before attempting manufacture of such a daunting type of lampshade.

I don't pretend to know it all about these lamps, as it is a specialist subject in itself, requiring many years of study, but I am willing to pass on what I know and help you to understand the process of their creation.

Two people are catered for at a time in this course as it's very intensive.

Cost for the course is currently $1050.00 per person which includes a Specialized Copper Foiling Toolkit (that allows a certain amount of work to be performed independantly of the workshop, ie homework), a set of Tiffany Mottle Leadlight Glass Squares, Tuition and Workshop Access Fees. Solder used in this course is like all my copper foiling courses, non-lead based.

The total cost and time needed is dependant on equipment and materials needed and what you want to achieve by its end.
